Welcome
Thank you for visiting the website of Pelorus Elder & Behavioral Health
We are a boutique group practice specializing in Geriatric and Adult Psychiatry. Our treatment settings include three outpatient offices in Cedar Knolls (Morris County), Springfield (Union County), and Raritan, near the “Somerville Circle” (Somerset County). We offer TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) and Esketamine / Spravato treatment as office-based treatments. We are also leading experts in practicing Psychiatry within “skilled nursing and subacute rehabilitation” settings, and we make regular rounds in a number of such locations in our community.
Matthew Barnas, MD, DFAPA, is Medical Director of Pelorus, and has been practicing medicine for 19 years. He is Board Certified in Geriatric and Adult Psychiatry, and completed his Geriatric training at Yale University. His training at Yale included practicing in skilled nursing facilities, and learning the federal regulations involved. He also completed training in TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) at Duke University. Dr. Barnas is on the medical staff at Buttonwood Behavioral Health Hospital, and both Morristown and Overlook Medical Centers. Additionally he volunteers his time as part of the teaching faculty at both Rutgers-NJMS and Rutgers-RWJMS as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry.
Learn More about Pelorus TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation)
TMS is the latest unique treatment intervention for Depression. TMS Therapy uses precisely targeted magnetic pulses that stimulate key areas of the brain, which are underactive in patients with Depression. Treatment is delivered right in the doctor’s office. Patients are awake during treatment, and can go about their normal activities immediately after treatment is completed. Learn more>>
